Happy World Card Making Day! I’m off to a wedding later, but couldn’t let the day pass without participating in the WCMD festivities.
I know WCMD is supposed to be a kick-off to the holiday card-making season, but I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to fall just yet! I made a fall wedding card featuring a beautiful maple leaf stamp by Inkadinkado (I bought it at Michaels, but it is available for online purchase too). I stamped it in Colorbox copper ink then heat embossed it. I used clear embossing powder to give it a shiny finish. I prefer using clear powder over this copper-inked image; when you cover it in another layer of gold powder then heat-set it, you lose some of the detail.
To finish the card, I brought out the lovely Papertrey Ink Love & Marriage stamp set, a wooden button (similar) and thread, and burlap ribbon (similar). This ribbon is actually wired, which usually I shy away from for cards. But the wire support actually came in handy when I wrapped and adhered it. I wasn’t as concerned about it shifting around.
The white background is dry embossed using an embossing folder (similar) and my Cuttlebug. I think the damask pattern adds a nice formal, finishing touch for a wedding.
With the leaf ever-so-slightly popping off the side of the card, I knew a standard A2 envelope wouldn’t fit. That’s where my Stampin’ Up! envelope punch board came in handy. I seriously love this tool. In just two minutes I made a custom envelope using soft sage cardstock. (Another bonus: Making an envelope with cardstock provides extra support for this multi-layered, embellished card.)
What’s great about hand-delivering a card is that you can have just as much fun with the envelope as the card itself. I wrapped the envelope like a gift, finishing it with gold satin ribbon and a simple stamped tag.
