11 days of travel. 56 pages of memories. 117 photos. My Project Life honeymoon album is complete!
This is one of my biggest scrapbook endeavors to date and my first Project Life album. I’ve never been big on 12×12 pages (I’m first a cardmaker, so it might be that too much white space intimidates me!) and I knew I wanted to include many photos, so using the Project Life pocket system—specifically, a 6×8 mini album—was a no-brainer for this project. The pre-designed grid pocket pages took out a lot of the guesswork that goes into creating a layout from scratch, so I could focus on what I enjoy most: playing with paper and embellishments!
That’s where the Simple Stories collection comes in. I actually think I let out an excited gasp when I saw the Good Day Sunshine collection online a few months ago. I knew the bright, beachy colors, woodgrain accents and handwritten font were perfect for documenting the Florida Keys! I also used the Summer Paradise collection by Simple Stories and a “best of” Amy Tangerine paper pack from Michaels, along with some other stamps and stickers.
Here are some of my favorite pages from the album and a few tips if you use Project Life for a vacation mini album. Enjoy!
I snipped the days of the week from one of the Good Day Sunshine Sn@p! Cards and Insta-Squares. For this longer album, marking the date was a consistent start to each new “chapter.”
I love layering die-cuts and word stickers to make my own embellished journaling cards.
This Papertrey Ink house stamp reminded me of the Hemingway House in Key West. I watercolored it with the Stampin’ Up! Aqua Painter and inks.
I added some fluttering butterflies from the Martha Stewart butterfly punch to the confetti-inspired Good Day Sunshine journaling card.
I used lots of lime for the key lime pie shop layout, of course!
Color can be used for any spread to create cohesiveness between photos; here, soft blues and neutral beige tie together a few photos from the Dry Tortugas. (I also made a mini album just for this trip, you can see that project here.)
Sometimes I had a longer story to tell than I could fit on the 3×4 card. In that case I added an extra card behind the original and attached the cards together using a brad.
Are you afraid to write on photos? I’m not! It’s a great way to add journaling details and use up space on a background photo. A thin black Sharpie (my journaling pen of choice) dries instantly on glossy photo paper.
And I stamped directly on this palm tree photo. A little heat embossing makes it smudge-proof, so it’s good to go inside the pocket right away!
I also heat embossed this palm tree stamp and created a watercolor background to make my own sunset-inspired journaling card.
The letter stickers that spell out “Islamorada” were a Target Dollar Spot find. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but they even have a bit of shimmer to them. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality given they were only a buck!
I have to admit, I’ve had so much fun working on this album the past few weeks and “reliving” the fun memories from our honeymoon, I am kind of bummed I’m all finished and won’t be able to work on these pages anymore! But I’m really happy with how the album came together. It’s nice to we have such a complete collection of photos and notes from our first vacation together!
